Born Mississauga, Ontario, 1983 · First Generation Canadian · Polish Descent

John Paul Jakubowski has stood at the edge. Heart surgeries before most kids learn to read brought him close enough to the other side to remember what it felt like. He calls it his tether to the nether. While his body was being repaired, something else opened. Beings and presences that don't belong to this world became familiar. What others might call a dream, he calls a doorway.

He never used it as an excuse. Growing up between hospital rooms and the ordinary world, he chose to blend in, carry the weight quietly, and turn what he saw into work. Art became the language for what couldn't be said out loud. Comedy became the armour. Stupid Expensive became the collision of both.

Satirical. Confrontational. Made with genuine care. Like every piece that leaves his hands — there is a dark in the light and a light in the dark. The foil cracks. The glow reveals itself. That's not a technique. That's a philosophy. That's a life.

Every Stupid Expensive garment is printed in three layers. UV glow ink first — invisible in daylight, luminous in the dark. Metallic foil pressed over top. The foil bonds and looks immaculate. Then you wear it.

With time, washing, and life, the foil begins to crack. Not a defect — a reveal. The glow underneath surfaces through the fractures. No two pieces age the same way.
